President John Dramani Mahama, National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential aspirant for the 2016 Election, is on a three-day campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region. The President is in the region that has since 1992, when the country ushered in democracy being a swing electoral area, to solicit votes to be retained in power in the forthcoming polls on December7.
President Mahama would confer with chiefs, artisans, fisher folks, public sector workers, party functionaries and stakeholders to ascertain their problems and needs, and plan the way forward. The President, who has already presented highlights of the NDC 2016 Manifesto at the State Banquet Hall in Accra on Tuesday evening, is expected to visit Bortianor, Anya, Weija/Gbawe, Sowotuom, Kweku Panfu, Domeabra and Akweteyman on his tour.
Speaking at a rally at Bortianor, he said government would support fishermen, who were affected by the recent tidal waves along some beaches of Accra, which on September 4, 2016, destroyed canoes and other fishing gear along beaches, including Bortianor.
The President said he had asked the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Ms Shirley Ayittey, to conduct an evaluation of the items destroyed, so that the government could address the difficulties being experienced by the fisher folk.
“Very soon we will find ways of assisting you,” President Mahama told the people of the predominantly fishing community. He said the impressive attendance at the rally was testimony of the victory the people of the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom Constituency were going to give the NDC.
President Mahama indicated that the NDC, had been faithful to the people of the constituency, as demonstrated by the development projects in areas of education, health, roads and water extended to the area by the government. The President urged the people to continue to have confidence in him and the NDC, because the government would implement more development projects to better the standard of living of the people.
President Mahama said it was clear that no matter the good work done by the government, its opponents would never show appreciation, but according to him, God and the good people of Ghana were aware of the hard work of the government.
“By the Grace of God, the NDC will win the elections,” he told the enthusiastic crowd.
The President said that in his first term, he had laid a solid foundation that would engineer the needed growth for the constituency. President Mahama said that he was hopeful of a resounding victory in the December polls due to the work done by his administration.
He reminded the electorate that: “There is a saying that God recognises our good works even if humans do not. I know that God recognizes our hard work and this gives me confidence that the NDC would win this year’s election. It is also God who gives power to whom it is due. You can never force your way to power unless it is given to you from above.
“We were at the Supreme Court for almost a year, because some people contested the 2012 election. Although this wasted our time, we have achieved a lot within just three years. I know God is on our side and we shall win this year’s election.” President Mahama as part of the campaign tour, introduced the NDC parliamentary aspirant for the constituency for the impending polls, Mr Bright Demordzi, and urged the electorate to vote massively for him in on December 7 polls.
The president is expected to visit like Osu, Adabrak and Tudu. President Mahama has so far been to the Western, Northern and the Central Regions since he began his campaign tour about a month ago. He is expected to launch the NDC’s 2016 manifesto in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region on Saturday.
